Single Review
YUI – Namidairo

Namidairo is YUI’s 12th single. It was released on February 27, 2008 and is the theme song of the drama, Yonshimai Tanteidan. It reached #3 on the weekly charts and has now sold a total of 115,168 copies.

tracklist:
1. Namidairo
2. I wanna be…
3. LOVE & TRUTH ~YUI Acoustic Version~
4. Namidairo ~Instrumental~

All I can say about Namidairo is that it’s another golden treat from YUI. I won’t forget this song because it’s one of the songs that got me hooked up with YUI. But, why? Why did I like it? Well, As with almost all of her songs, It features good instruments such as guitars and violins, an inspiring thought in the lyrics and most of all, YUI’s vocal excellence. Seriously, YUI is one of the artists in the Jpop music scene that you have to watch out for because she constantly makes great songs which is done mainly by one reason… Her voice. YUI’s voice is good, but, In this song, it’s not just good, It’s excellent. It truly fits the acoustic theme of the song and creates an emotional feel in it. It opens with an acoustic guitar, accompanied by a violin, then, is quickly followed by the first verse. From the first verse until the chorus part, the only instruments that can be heard are the guitars and the violins but, later on with the next verse, the drums and everything comes in. My favorite thing about this song is the constant use of the guitar. The guitar plays a very important role in this song because it adds a certain beauty in the song that gets one person into listening to the song. In Conclusion, It’s another WOWing YUI song that automatically makes the listener hooked and makes the listener crave for more.

Unlike the A-side, The B-side, I wanna be…, is more upbeat and fast-paced. To be honest, I think this song is not actually B-side material but, what can we do? It’s already here… Anyway, I think it’s not B-side material because it’s very catchy especially the “I wanna be…” lines you can hear every chorus and the melody, purely made up of Rock elements such as electric guitar sounds and fast-paced drum beats. Another reason why this song is good is because It’s cheery feel isn’t too much. It is cheery but not as cheery as one of her previous songs, My Generation. Overall, A great B-side song that’s not a so B-side material after all.

The YUI acoustic version of LOVE & TRUTH comes next. Sadly, It isn’t as good as the original version because it sounds very incomplete. YUI’s vocals are good but is sometimes shaky, the guitar is alright but still, It’s seems to be missing something. It sounds so dull with only the guitar as the accompaniment but, it does get a lot better when the acoustic guitar solo comes in. The rest is just okay. JUST okay.

Overall, this single isn’t bad at all. In fact, I consider it as one of YUI’s strongest singles because of it’s somehow big crowd popularity. I really enjoyed this single a lot and really, I don’t regret buying it ^^.

  2. yui is cute. XD.

but anyway i first dislike this song after listening to it once. even deleted it. but after reading several reviews from other people, i decided to listen again and this time i like the song.. and now listening to it frequently.

i think she’s just unique. her singing skills is not that great if compared to like mariah carey and such but then she’s great and unique in her own way and that’s what i like it. i like her songs and i like her voice – very childlike.

  3. I mean, I respect YUI as an artist, and I’ve tried to get used to her voice, but it just sounds so weird. No offense to you YUI fans, but just not my style.

  4. I kinda like the Acoustic Version of LOVE & TRUTH.
Namidairo has a to be one of YUI’s best singles.

  5. i actually prefer listening to her acoustic versions.
