STEP you / is this LOVE? is Ayumi Hamasaki’s 35th single. It was released on April 20, 2005, and reached #1 in Oricon charts for 2 weeks. It charted for a total of 19 weeksand has sold a total of 345,340 copies, making it the 19 th best-selling single of 2005.

I knew Ayumi Hamasaki ever since I started listening to JPOP but, I wasn’t a big fan of hers. I used to hear her songs “Evolution” and “M” when I was young but, I wasn’t really WOWED with them. Well, now, I guess you could say that I am an ayuu fan. Say all your thanks to STEP you. I heard and knew about STEP you in youtube. That day, I was trying to look for other great JPOP songs in that site and I suddenly came across this one. I asked a lot of people what the song’s title was but, I stopped because they all seemed irritated with me always asking ^_^;. The title was a bit awkward but, I guarantee you, the whole song isn’t. The song caught my attention because of the wild, enjoyable and crazy atmosphere that extremely goes well with the catchy melody and lyrics… Well, to save all that blabbing, I would say Everything was catchy and it was terrific! definitely a must listen.

Moving to an edgier song… The B side, is this LOVE? uses a lot of rock elements. It opens up with some piano keys then the heavy guitars come in. The song is quite good actually. I am very impressed with her. I have to admit that she sounds a lot better than her previous songs compared to the songs that she used to release during the early 2000’s. You can hear that she has improved and now has complete control over her voice in this song unlike before. Another must-listen song. ^^
