GIRL NEXT DOOR – Guuzen no Kakuritsu
Guuzen no Kakuritsu is GIRL NEXT DOOR’s debut single. It was released on September 3, 2008, and reached #3 on the oricon weekly charts. It sold a total of 58, 137 copies.
tracklist:
1. Guuzen no Kakuritsu
2. Breath
3. Red ribbon ~Unmei no Hito~
4. Guuzen no Kakuritsu (ice cream mix)
5. Guuzen no Kakuritsu (Instrumental)
6. Breath (Instrumental)
Actually, I didn’t really pay attention to GIRL NEXT DOOR’s debut. I was just so concentrated with other artists, and I wasn’t really interested on trying new electropop artists, because I’m not a fan of the genre. But after I knew that they were put up by avex as a part of their 20th anniversary celebration, I hurriedly went on and listened to Guuzen no Kakuritsu. To my surprise, they were much more than what I had in mind. They bring up electropop music, but with a really awesome twist. They blend in rock for a change to make things sound more amazing, which by the way, is one reason why I love this group’s music. As I have said, the group’s music revolves around electropop and rock, and that’s what basically this song’s structure contains. Guuzen no Kakuritsu contains lots and lots of synth and guitars to blend in with the arrangement, and some pretty strong percussion beats that help things blend in together too. To make it short, this song is just so cool, and it really makes up for an outstanding debut song. Definitely one of my favorite JPop debuts of all time.
I wasn’t really a fan of Breath because it sounded a bit boring for my tastes. Plus, it sounds a bit christmas-y to me, which is really weird because it was released like, September, and it sounds like some of Ayu’s earlier stuff. Although, I really think Chisa’s voice sounds so beautiful here.
I like the next track better than Breath, but nothing can overpower Guuzen no Kakuritsu. Red ribbon ~Unmei no Hito~ easily gets my pick for being my favorite GND b-side because it was what I was looking for from the group more than just hyper electropop jams. This track isn’t too fast, not too slow, and not too loud, which is really great because your ears get to rest after the amazing A-side. Chiisa’s voice sounds so beautiful in here too, and the arrangement makes it sound more gorgeous too. ^^
The ice cream mix of Guuzen no Kakuritsu was OK. I kinda hate it because it ruined the energy of the original track, and the new arrangement doesn’t fit the manner of Chiisa’s vocals.
